Examples of Damweiniau

The damweiniau, ‘eventualities’, are sentences stating ‘if x happens, then y should happen’. They often occur in large collections, sometimes appended to some manuscripts: there is a large collection of damweiniau as Llyfr Damweiniau (The Book of Damweiniau) in the later manuscripts, and the Book was linked with the Iorwerth redaction originally.
The collections can be separated into Damweiniau I and Damweiniau II.
There is some evidence for later development of law in the damweiniau, and it is possible that the text was intended for educational purposes. The damweiniau from Colan were edited by Dafydd Jenkins and published as Damweiniau Colan.
